Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 20 trillion rupee, or US$266 billion, support package to help the country’s economy amid the novel coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown.
Modi said the economy would need to adapt to the possibility of the coronavirus being around a long time, but added that the lives of citizens could not revolve around the virus.
The comments come as the country begins to pull back from one of the world’s tightest lockdowns of 1.3 billion people, which left millions out of work and some stranded in cities far from home.
The country has more than 70,000 confirmed cases and 2,293 deaths according to official tallies.
